About Heidelberg News

Heidelberg News
Heidelberg News (HN) is the customer magazine of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG. Published four times a year, the magazine has a circulation of around 130,000 copies and is available in over 80 countries throughout the world. The language versions German, English, French and Spanish are produced centrally in Germany. In addition, branch offices in many countries offer localized versions of the magazine for their customers.

Heidelberg News' goal is to inform (prospective) Heidelberg customers and other interested parties about new products and describe their particular benefits. Moreover, the magazine offers hands-on tips for using the corresponding technologies as well as impulses for the customers' individual business models. Of course, the magazine also wants to offer an interesting and enjoyable read.

For this purpose, the section "Profiles" offers "Best Practices" from Heidelberg customers, presents new Heidelberg products under "Solutions", and introduces the reader to "Innovations" from the entire print media industry. The section "Chances" looks at issues related to successful business management, while "Perspectives" surprises the reader with original anecdotes from the print media industry, and "Tips & Tricks" provides support for different application and user problems.

The first issue of Heidelberg News was published as early as 1930. Even then, the magazine's aim was to give its readers "Suggestions and tips for modern printers". Initially, Heidelberg News could only meet this claim until 1939 when the Second World War forced the emerging customer magazine to take a break for some years. After the war, however, the project continued even more ambitiously: HN was back in 1953 and still knew how to stand out with its high print quality and premium content. In addition, Heidelberg also started to translate each issue into up to 26 languages, ensuring that almost every third printer in the world could read the latest news from Heidelberg in his or her native language.

For drupa 1995, Heidelberg adapted the appearance of HN to the company's new Corporate Identity. The format also changed: from the previous DIN A5 format, HN grew to a size of 230 millimeter in width and 310 millimeter in height. This format corresponded to the printing capabilities of the new Quickmaster and Speedmaster families at the time and offered the additional benefit that product brochures or other information material could easily be inserted. Moreover, Heidelberg raised the bar regarding creative design even higher: text, images and graphics were arranged as equal elements to compose a sophisticated piece of art. And in terms of content and style, HN shone with a timeless presentation of the topics, ensuring that many of the issues made for an inspiring read - even years after their first publication.

The end of 2004 saw the relaunch of Heidelberg News. The primary goal was to increase the frequency of publication. At the same time, HN, which had so far focussed on one key topic in each issue, should become more multi-thematic, featuring a more journalistic and thus more magazinesque style. The oversize format was sacrificed for the 215 x 280 millimeter format, more suitable for international dispatching without, however, compromising the high claims as regards design. Only two issues after its relaunch, HN has already been awarded the silver medal at Europe's most significant Corporate Publishing contest.

Naturally, it is Heidelberg News's strong will to stay true to its tradition of presenting "Suggestions and tips for modern printers" also after the remake.
